Around Town

All around town thousands of jacaranda trees are bursting out in purple blooms - it is a wonderful sight to the delight of locals and tourists alike. Our daughter Grace had the pleasure of singing at our town's most popular street front cafe Saturday morning, something we will likely see more of in the near future.

It has been nearly three years since we visited friends just out of town. They love keeping alpacas which they treat as pets - Lara is 'talking' to Stirling above. The alpacas have recently been shawn in preparation for our summer heat. We came home with some farm-fresh chicken and duck eggs as well as a yellow dragon fruit! We'd eaten pink dragon fruit with white and red flesh but never the yellow variety which is sweeter to taste and juicier. Some describe the flavour and texture as a cross between a pear and kiwi fruit. The eight of us who tried this one yesterday (Miss V didn't want to) all agreed that it was delicious!

I know of no other tree as beautiful as the jacaranda in flower. Grace seems very much at home singing in public and adding to the customers enjoyment.

How nice to see your daughter playing and singing with her guitar. The yellow dragon fruit looks yummy. Anything that pretty would have to fast good. Nice alpacas. We have an alpaca farm really close to our house, so we see them every time we go to town. The babies are the cutest.

Do you still have that street with jacarandas making a tunnel of purple? I have only seen it on photos but would love to see it in person one day. Your daughter looks comfortable entertaining the tourists. You must be proud of her. I've never tasted a dragon fruit must do that too.

Hi Diane, there are in fact several streets lined with jacarandas, some look better than others, depending on the season and time of day etc.
Most the cafe patrons were locals, its a popular a meeting spot. Early Saturday mornings there are lots of cyclists, finishing up with coffee and a chat after their ride.

So nice to see Grace is still singing in public. It must be a wonderful sight streets full of Jacaranda trees in bloom, I can imagine how it looks like. I love those alpacas, in our surroundings there are people who have them as pets too, but I have my doubts, they look a bit misplaced in our country.
I enjoyed your lovely series of photos again.

Thank you Janneke. It is nice to share of general life again too and not just quilting. We had a gentle storm late this afternoon so there is a carpet of purple flowers on the road and ground under the trees around town this evening. Very pretty but I’ve been too busy with family to take photos before sunset. I guess an alpaca makes a better pet than many large animals but different to a small animal which you can hold or have come inside you home.

Best wishes to Grace on her continuing singing ventures. Those alpacas look so sweet. I would love to have some at my farm.
